Our Name: A Timeless Legacy

The Charak Center for Health and Wellness derives its name from Maharishi Charak, one of the most revered sages and physicians in the history of ancient Indian system of medicine known as Ayurveda, which literally means life (ayur) sciences (veda). He is credited as the father of Ayurveda, the world’s oldest system of holistic healing. His book, the Charak Samhita, remains a foundational work in Ayurvedic medicine, emphasizing the intricate balance between mind, body, and spirit in achieving true wellness.

At the Charak Center, we honor this legacy by embracing a comprehensive approach to mental health and well-being. Charak’s teachings emphasize individualized care, prevention, and the deep connection between nature and healing. Similarly, the Charak Center provides compassionate, evidence-based, and integrative treatments for mental health and addiction recovery.

By choosing the name “Charak” to represent our Center for Health and Wellness, we pay homage to an ancient tradition that views healing as a deeply personal, holistic and spiritual journey—one that aligns with our mission of bringing true hope to our patients.
